Nicky Roland

Art Therapist – HCPC Registered, Private Practitioner - BAAT registered
Mindfulness Teacher
Supervisor

Nicky offers Art Therapy, Mindfulness-Based Art Therapy (MBAT) and Therapeutic Mindfulness sessions, for groups and individuals.

She facilitates our weekly Art Therapy and Mindfulness Group and Mindful Art Studio, Tuesday Evenings, at the London Art Therapy Centre.

Nicky believes that image making, within the therapeutic relationship, has tremendous potential for enhancing well-being and that images can communicate beyond words. She provides a supportive container to enable this expression. This includes supporting individuals who don’t feel they are artistic.

The core values embedded in her approach include inviting kindness and care, encouragement of non-judgemental responses, patience in allowing change to occur, and appreciation and recognition of how we are in the present moment.

Her theoretical framework is psycho-dynamic and integrative, and is informed by object relations, attachment theories and mindfulness approaches.

Nicky sees adults and children. Her clients include those who have experienced mental health problems, such as anxiety, depression and history of trauma/abuse. She has been working as an art therapist for several years in the NHS, voluntary sector and in private practice.

Nicky was inspired to train as an art therapist following her time volunteering in Sri Lanka after the 2004 Tsunami, where she facilitated groups which enabled people to use images and words to express and process their experiences. In 2008 she obtained her MA in Art Psychotherapy at Goldsmiths University.

She has practised mindfulness meditation since 2004, which she has found to be of immense personal value. From 2013-14 she completed a year-long mindfulness teacher training with The Mindfulness Training Institute, with Martin Aylward and Mark Coleman. In 2015 she attended Mindfulness and Individual Therapy Training at Bangor University. She currently teaches mindfulness to individuals and groups, offers therapeutic mindfulness mentoring, and runs in-house company mindfulness training.
