Back to Nature: An Afternoon of Yoga and Art Therapy

6 – 9 pm Thursday 20th June 2024
at Stanmer Park, Brighton

Come and join Nicky Roland (Art Therapist) and Tammy McCann (Yoga teacher) for an afternoon which will include mindful yoga, mindfulness meditation and creative art making.

We will start with gentle yoga, exploring the natural movements of the body to bring us into a somatic experience of presence, discovering the beauty of our inner nature.

We will then move into creative practice, and group sharing. There will be art materials available, including the nature-based found materials around us.

This is a time for restoring in our bodies, connecting with ourselves and the land around us, then opening to any wisdom we receive through doing so.

Tammy McCann: 500hr RYT, 100hr Meditation TT

Tammy’s practice is rooted in Buddhism. For many years she practised at a local centre, attending many retreats. She has also explored the teachings and practises of many different traditions, and this fuelled her love of philosophy and inquiry. Yoga played an important part throughout these earlier explorations and led her to the decision to train formally. She completed a two-year 500-hour yoga teacher training which was intense and challenging, but gave her a solid grounding in yoga’s spiritual and physical elements. The training explored the eight limbs of yoga, and as she studied she found her home in the practice. Teaching what she has learned, and what inspires and excites her, is now her passion.

Tammy’s classes are playful and accessible, while also being heartfelt and informed by a deep belief in the power of yoga. This is the power she communicates through a spirit of lightness, openness and playfulness. Only in freedom, compassionate curiosity and acceptance will true healing happen, and Tammy brings this into her classes by exploring all the elements of yoga: postures, breathwork and meditation. www.yogawithtammy.co.uk

Nicky Roland: Art Therapist – HCPC Registered, Private Practitioner – BAAT registered, Mindfulness Teacher

Nicky Roland is an experienced HCPC registered Art Therapist and a trained mindfulness teacher with several years work experience in the NHS, voluntary sector and in private practice. She specialises in the integration of art therapy and mindfulness and offers one-to-one sessions, weekly groups, workshops, supervision and trainings. The core values embedded in her approach include inviting kindness and care, encouragement of non-judgemental responses, patience in allowing change to occur, and appreciation and recognition of how we are in the present moment.

Nicky believes that image making, within the therapeutic context, has tremendous potential for enhancing well-being and that images can communicate beyond words. She provides a supportive container to enable this expression. This includes supporting individuals who don’t feel they are artistic.

WORKSHOP TWO:
SOCIAL DREAMING AND ART PSYCHOTHERAPY – SELF IN RELATION TO OTHERS, ‘TRANSITIONING BETWEEN THE I AND US’
2.30PM – 4.00PM

Facilitator: Dr Hayley Berman

Cost £30

We will be having a visual conversation, a metaphoric and image -based conversation.

Within the workshop participants will engage with a process called Social Dreaming, where we will share night time dreams, and free associations responding to the theme of ‘Transitioning between the I and Us’

The structure holds the ethos of democratizing learning and teaching. It begins to elaborate methods of coming to know. We return to a time when communities gathered to talk about their dreams, to create together, play together and dream together. It is also an experience of group based visual research.

Participants will have space to make images, journal and reflect before returning to the larger group to think about and create links and threads of what the social unconscious of the group is communicating.
